A large percentage of the companies that MGTS work in partnership with invest over and above the main apprenticeship programme training to ensure that both their apprentices and organisation reap the rewards.
Here we catch up with Kevin Broadbent, NCMT Engineering Manager (Engineering Application Group) to learn how additional training (part-funded by the Coventry and Warwickshire Skills 4 Growth programme) opened up opportunities for their third year engineering apprentice Daniel Clarke (pictured above).
Kevin tells us… “It was great to learn about the funding opportunity through Daniel’s Training and Development Adviser at MGTS. The significant saving to the business allowed us to sign Daniel up for the HNC in General Engineering programme with MGTS which is an important element in his career progression. The higher level of academic study has helped Daniel focus on more detailed application of subject principles.”
Daniel comments “I recognise and appreciate the opportunity given to me by NCMT to undertake the HNC study and gain extra technical knowledge that I will be able to apply in the workplace.”
Kevin continues “Daniel has been working in recent months on a special purpose CNC turnkey project. To enable Daniel to maintain a sense of further ownership of this work the business plan is now to investigate the opportunity for him to assist in the installation of this equipment at the Customer site in the North of England.
“We are impressed with Daniel’s application and motivation, both towards the HNC programme and his work within the business.”
Adrian Simkiss, Customer Engagement Manager at MGTS said “It is always a rewarding outcome when we see apprentices progressing in their careers. We are pleased that we have been able to engage with NCMT on this project and that both the company and Daniel will benefit greatly from the opportunities that the funding afforded.”
